First Class Period 1

Describe:

     When you are doing something new, it is normal that you get nervous because you don’t know exactly what to do.

 That is why it is very important for novice teachers like me to prepare really carefully the class before going to the classroom. This group is quite small. There are 13 students and that is good because it is easier to teach in small than in a bigger one. I can say that in this group students have a good level of English and some students like to participate in class and others don’t. 

     For this class I was assigned to give the practice related to the present perfect continuous. I decided to start the class with a song that contained a lot of Present Perfect in its lyric. I think students enjoyed this activity. For the rest of the class I prepared mostly written activities in worksheets that students used to develop the practice.

Interpret:

I think that for this class I should use more visual aids in order to make the class more interesting to students. This is important because students tend to get bored if they are doing written activities for very long periods. Also it is very important to start the class in a very dynamic way because this will help the development of the rest of the class.

Generalize:

When you are teaching, the way you organize things in the classroom may affect in a positive or negative way the performance of the students and the seating arrangement is one of the most important aspects  because if you as teacher  have the adequate arrangement  it will be easier to monitor students work. For this class I think the seating arrangement was not the appropriate because I had some troubles when walking around.

Based on what I already know about teaching, I can say that students need more dynamic activities because if the teacher uses too many writing activities students tend to get bored during the class and the learning process is not as good as it should.

Plan action:

     Based on the experience I got with this teaching practice, in the future I will prepare activities using more visual aids to help students to be more focused in the class. I think it is important to use tools like Prezi, Power Point, or any other software that ca help us to create multimedia content.

    Since this group is small, I think I can make all students to be more active and participative in the class because this time I saw some students got distracted. Definitely for the next class I have to prepare more to give a quality class.
