First Class Period III

Description of the class

Today October 28, 2015 was my first of the last period. It is exciting to be at this point almost at the end of a long but really interesting journey. For this class I was asked to prepare practice activities related to infinitives and gerunds.  I started my class as habitual with a warm up. For the warm up I prepared a memory game to be played using the laptop. Regarding to the practice activities, I brought a video related to Minions because everybody likes them since they are really funny. I think students enjoyed this activity even though I had some technical problems with the speakers at the beginning. After watching the video, students had to solve a guide choosing the correct form, infinitive or gerund, of some verbs using. The second activity was a worksheet in which students had to complete some sentences choosing the correct form, infinitive or gerund, of the verb in parenthesis, and after that they had to analyze if that infinitive or gerund was working as a direct object or not.  

  

Interpretation:

Teaching is still something that makes me nervous maybe because I am a little bit shy and quiet but I know that is not right because a teacher must transmit energy to the students.  I still have many things to improve to become a good teacher, but I think I have had a big progress since my first time teaching.  All my tutors have been a big help because they have given me really good pieces of advice to be a better teacher. I still have big challenges to overcome but I am sure that I will do it.  

Generalization:

Based on what I have learned, I can say that you need to stimulate students to pay attention in class, if you don’t do that you will be talking or developing an activity, but students will be doing something else to avoid your class because in there they will get bored. Something very interesting about being a teacher is the fact that you never stop learning and that is very good because for preparing a class you have to review materials from here and there and at the end you as a teacher also enrich your knowledge. Based on what I observed, I can say that students like catchy activities, and we as teachers must do our best fulfill their demands.  

Plan Action:

Based on my performance, I can say that I have many things to work in. I will focus my attention on the way I talk because it is to flat and students tend to get bored when I am speaking. Also it is very important to prepare quality materials so for my future classes I will put special attention to that aspect.   When you prepare a class you expect to have all things on the right place but not always it is like that sometime you face technical problems with thing or devices you didn’t expected but you always must have a plan b and that will be one of the challenges for my next classes.
